Samsung Display Receives Durability Certificate for Galaxy Z Fold 5

Samsung announced that its 7.6-inch foldable panel, similar to the one used in the Galaxy Z Fold5, has passed the US Department of Defense Test Method Standard, better known as MIL-STD-810. The standard certifies that the product can operate without damage in harsh conditions such as extreme temperature changes and external shocks. Samsung Display has announced that it is the first company in the world to receive such military-grade certification for foldable OLED panels.

Samsung Display panels work for 2 hours at -32 degrees

Each product that passes the testing process must withstand harsh conditions, such as operating for four hours after being sprayed with water at -10 degrees C, then covered with a 6mm layer of ice. The panel also continued to operate for 2 hours when the ambient temperature varied between -32 and +63 degrees; Each test must be completed three times.

A Samsung Display representative told Korean media that foldable devices are not lacking in durability and that this is a common misconception. Expectations are that this standard will open the door to wider applications of foldable panels in the near future.
