According to several Western sources, Nabiullina asked for his resignation after Russia invaded Ukraine. President Putin blocked the intention, and Nabiullina is likely to continue in his new five-year term.

Allegations of resignation demands and dismissals from Russia’s leading decision-makers are gaining momentum.

Nabiullina is also regarded in the West as one of the best central bank governors in the world. The 58-year-old economist managed to balance the Russian economy in a difficult situation under Western sanctions.

– I am an expert in another field, Nabiullina told Putin according to the Daily Mirror.

Nabiullina herself has not answered questions about her new five-year term. Neither the Kremlin nor the central bank have done that.
