Russian anger at the inappropriate behavior in Sweden’s victory match during the hockey World Cup – after unexpected details: “What clowns”

Tre Kronor has had a perfect start to the hockey WC.
But now great anger is being directed after Sweden’s victory match – from excluded Russia.
“They have deliberately erased Russia from history,” writes Russian Championat.

The 2024 Hockey World Cup is in full swing and for Sweden it has been a good start to the championship. Tre Kronor first defeated the gold candidate USA on Friday night and on Sunday night there was an expected big victory against Poland.

Russian anger

But now there has been great fury in Russia after the inappropriate action in Sweden’s victory match against the USA. When the television production showed a graphic of the nations that won the most WC gold in history, you could clearly see Canada at the top with 28 golds, followed by the Czech Republic with 12 golds and Sweden with 11 golds.

But Russia, with its 27 World Cup golds in history was completely missing and has caused enormous fury in the excluded country.
“There are clowns and hypocrites in the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation),” writes a Russian journalist in a column for the newspaper Championat.
“It is ridiculous, under all criticism and stupid. A scandalous mistake”.

“A Scandal”

The newspaper continues to direct great criticism at the 2024 Hockey World Cup for this disrespectful action in the telecast.
“They have deliberately erased Russia’s team from history,” writes Championat.
“The opening day of the World Cup will be remembered for this scandal,” writes another Russian newspaper, Sport-Express, and calls it a scandal.
“It is too hard to believe that what happened was an accident,” they write.

According to the Russian news agency Tass, Luc Tardif, IIHF president, responded to the criticism and calls it all a mistake. It is particularly noteworthy that several of the Czech Republic’s WC golds that were reported in the graphic came when the country was still Czechoslovakia.
