Russia urges Mariupol to surrender Ukraine knocks out proposal

Russia’s defense ministry issued a call on Sunday night that the besieged city of Mariupol should surrender by 5 p.m. The ministry claimed to open humanitarian corridors out of Mariupol after the surrender.

Russia struck Kiev on Sunday night

The Ukrainian capital, Kiev, was bombed late Sunday, the city mayor said Vitali Klitshko.

Authorities say at least four people have died in the attack.

Klitshko says on his Telegram channel that several residential buildings and a shopping center are being damaged by fire in the Podil district.

The bombings caused fires on various floors of the mall and set fire to several cars, local rescue officials said.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine: Mariupol will not give up

On Sunday night, the Russian Ministry of Defense demanded that the port city of Mariupol in eastern Ukraine surrender, Russian news agencies RIA and Tass said.

Russia later received a response. The besieged city of Mariupol is not surrendering to Russian troops, the deputy prime minister of Ukraine said Iryna Vereshtshuk news site Ukrayinska Pravda.

– We have informed Russia that surrendering and lowering arms will not be heard, Vereshtshuk says.

The Russian Ministry of Defense had set a deadline for surrender at five o’clock Monday morning Moscow time.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Mariupol authorities would face a court of war if the terms of surrender were not agreed within the time limit.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to offer humanitarian corridors out of Mariupol. According to the ministry, safe access out of the city would be guaranteed for all those who lay down their arms.

On Sunday, evacuated nearly 7,300 people from Ukrainian cities

A total of 7,295 people were evacuated from Ukrainian cities during Sunday, said Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshtshuk.

He also said evacuations could be made along four humanitarian corridors. A total of seven corridors had been attempted.

3,985 people were evacuated from the city of Zaporizhia in Mariupol alone, Vereshtshuk said.

The Ukrainian government has said it plans to send nearly 50 buses to the city of Mariupol on Monday to evacuate people.
