Robert Helenius could have gotten a banned substance from eggs

According to Robert Helenius’ Manager, the investigation is about whether the clomiphene discovery could be explained by the boxer’s diet. The substance in question can come from certain types of eggs.

Urheilu reported on Friday that the boxer of Robert Helenius in the doping sample given in August, a drug called clomiphene was found instead of letrozole. Helenius’ manager confirmed the information.

On August 12, Helenius became a superstar in London Anthony Joshua against. Joshua won the match by knockout.

A couple of weeks after the match in question, Matchroom Boxing, the promoter company that organized the event, announced that the doping sample given by Helenius during the match contains deviations that point to a doping finding.

Robert Helenius’ manager Markus Sundman tells Urheilu that the investigation is on whether the possible reason for the increased concentration and the clomiphene discovery could be explained by Helenius’ extreme diet.

– We do not understand how this substance could have entered Robert’s body. We have clarified the matter with several experts, and a possible explanatory factor at this stage is his diet, Sundman commented on Friday.

Helenius’ eating habits have been a hot topic in the past. He follows a diet rich in proteins and fats. For example, Helenius might easily eat 20–30 eggs a day.

Sundman did not want to comment on whether the elevated clomiphene concentrations found in the doping samples came from eating eggs.

Suek’s medical expert at the Finnish Sports Ethics Center Pekka Rauhala says that somewhere in the world, clomiphene has been used to make poultry lay more eggs.

– When it is used, it is transferred to the eggs. If you eat such eggs, there are sufficient concentrations for them to show up in a doping test, Rauhala opens.

Rauhala says that clomiphene belongs to a group like estrogen receptor blockers. Normally, estrogen inhibits the secretion of testosterone.

– If it is prevented, the secretion of testosterone increases. This is the reason why it is on the list of prohibited substances.
