Risk of death: Blekinge hospital stops newly purchased medicine pumps

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

On the very first day with the newly purchased medicine pumps, the problems began. They then repeated themselves on several different occasions.

When healthcare workers were to put patients to sleep or give medicine during operations, the pumps stopped suddenly, or gave the wrong amount of medicine. The staff notes that this entails a risk of death.

– It could have ended badly without experienced personnel who identified the dangerous situation and handled it, says Peter Svensson, who is the operations manager.

Reported

Region Blekinge has now therefore stopped using the equipment during operations and has turned to the Medical Products Agency with a report.

– The manufacturer has confirmed that there is an error in the software, they will produce a new one and send it to us, says Peter Svensson.
