Last September, Brant County councilors approved a nearly $2-million design contract for the proposed project.

The complex at 944 Powerline Rd. opened in 2011, with two NHL-sized ice pads, a banquet hall, meeting rooms and a conference room.

The proposed addition on the east side of the arena complex would add another 50,000 square feet to the current 80,000-square-foot building.

It would make room for a triple gymnasium, indoor walking track, and new multi-purpose rooms for preschool, youth and senior programming.

Also proposed are gender-neutral change areas and washrooms, customer service and office space, and a pro shop.

About $22 million was factored into the long-term financial plan to build the new addition but costs could be closer to $30 million.

A news release issued by Brant County on Tuesday said the proposed project “is still in its early stages and is subject to council approval.”

“Your feedback will play a key role in supporting the vision for this potential project,” said the release.

Residents can provide feedback by completing an online survey at engagebrant.ca. The survey closes on Feb. 9.

Printed surveys are available at the main County of Brant customer service locations until Feb. 7 at 4:30 p.m.

Surveys can also be completed over the phone by calling 519-442-7268 or 1-855-442-7268.

A series of pop-up events are planned to learn more about the potential expansion, ask questions and give feedback.

They will be held:

  • Sunday, Jan. 26 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Burford Community Centre, public skate, 14 Potter Dr.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 6 pm to 8 pm, public skate, 944 Powerline Rd., Paris.
  • Friday, Jan. 31 from 10 am to 1 pm at Syl Apps Community Center, 51 William St., Paris.
  • Sunday, Feb. 2 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Gaukel Memorial Community Center, public skate, 7 Gaukel Dr., St. George.
