Residents in Marseille file a complaint against X on pollution

They say stop maritime pollution: 25 inhabitants of the northern districts of Marseille and two associations filed this Tuesday, February 28 a collective criminal complaint against X for “endangering the lives of others” and “ecological damage”. The plaintiffs suspect in particular maritime pollution of being the cause of health consequences and want to identify those responsible for this situation.

With our correspondent in Marseille, Yoram Melloul

Michèle Rauzier is one of the 25 residents to have filed a complaint: “ Sometimes I choke, I’m not well, as soon as I’m somewhere else, I feel better. My immediate neighbor has allergy and cough problems, and when she is in her house in the Luberon, she no longer coughs. There is still something, so ! »

Nicolas Chambardon is one of three lawyers who takes care of the file : “ There marine pollution is something huge, heavy fuel oil is 3 500 times more polluting than diesel or petrol, so obviously this has an impact on health. The interest of a complaint is to isolate the responsibilities, behaviors in particular which result in excessive pollution and outside the thresholds provided for by law and by European regulations. »

He hopes that an investigation will be carried out, and that it will identify those responsible:

There is a place in which, unfortunately, we don’t have a survey, we don’t have a study, because it’s quite opaque, it’s the large seaport of Marseille. For lack of data, we file a complaint against X, and when I say “we” I mean the complainants who come to see us, to be able to try to access this data and identify individual responsibilities. »

The lawyer specifies that other people who consider themselves victims can still join this legal action.
