Linda Persson, together with the community association Eriksmåla/Åfors, believes that the speed limit of 70 kilometers per hour is not followed by passers-by today, and therefore wants to see a reduced speed to 50.
The community association believes that motorists will drive even faster when the game fence is up.
– Game fencing is good because it makes it safer for motorists and the animals. But if you don’t have this fear of running over an animal, you can drive even faster, says Linda Persson.
“We have no safe way to cross the road”
Next to the roundabout in Eriksmåla, where Linda Persson believes that several motorists keep a significantly higher speed than what the limit shows, is a playground.
– People take the car to the playground, which is a two-minute walk from here. It is easier to get out by car than it is on foot.
The Swedish Transport Administration’s response
Linda Persson has been in contact with Emmaboda municipality, the Swedish Transport Administration and the county administrative board to get clarity on what applies to the speeds through Eriksmåla.
– I contacted the Swedish Transport Administration first and they forwarded me to the municipality and the county administrative board. Then the county administration sent me back to the Swedish Transport Administration. Everyone said it wasn’t their area, says Linda Persson.
Johanna Berg is the project manager for the game fence between Eriksmåla and Lessebo, and she is familiar with the questions that have arisen regarding the speeds.
– There is an investigation into a speed reduction a little further ahead, she says.
