Chatham-Kent residents are being encouraged to make the holiday season brighter in their neighborhoods with a chance to win prizes.

The third annual ‘Light Up Chatham-Kent’ initiative is back encouraging residents to decorate their homes to join in spreading holiday cheer.

“The holiday season is a time for coming together, and there’s no better way to do that than by illuminating our community with the spirit of the season,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff in a media release.
“The ‘Light Up Chatham-Kent’ initiative has become a cherished tradition, and it’s incredible to see how our residents’ creativity and holiday spirit shine through their festive displays,” he added. “We can’t wait to see the town aglow with holiday lights once again.”
The Chatham Canadian Tire store has joined as a sponsor for the community events, the municipal said.
“We’re proud to support ‘Light Up Chatham-Kent’ and be part of this fantastic holiday tradition,” Chatham Canadian Tire store owner Darcel Gonzales in the release.

“It’s a testament to the strong sense of community in Chatham-Kent,” he added. “We’re excited to see the magic that local residents create with their holiday decorations this year.”
Some contests have been lined up for the initiative, which requires registering www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca. More details are on the website.
Those who add a pin to the online map at Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent will be automatically registered for a daily draw for the 12 Days of Christmas. Voting will begin Dec. 13 and close Dec. 19. The top three with the most votes will receive gift cards from Canadian Tire.
The holiday fun doesn’t end with house decorations, the municipality said.
“We also have some amazing community-driven holiday light displays in downtowns around Chatham-Kent, and we encourage everyone to add pictures and pins of these to our map,” the municipality said. “Your support will shine a spotlight on the incredible talent and creativity of our community members.”
