In Utrecht alone, 1500 people are on the waiting list for food aid, says Nicole van Batenburg of the Red Cross. “In Utrecht, the Red Cross helps about four hundred households a week with a shopping card with 17.50 euros on it.” With such a card, people can do their own shopping in the supermarket. “So instead of you giving a food package, people can decide for themselves what they want to eat.”
