As recently as this week, two people were arrested on suspicion of serious drug offences. The persons were arrested in connection with a vehicle check. It is just one of the large seizures that have been made in the past month. In fact, the police seized more drugs in the last month than they normally do in a whole year.
– My opinion is that this was intended for the market in Umeå, which is worrying, says Thomas Palmgren, head of intelligence at the police in Västerbotten.
The gang establishes itself in Umeå
SVT Nyheter Västerbotten has previously told about two of the gangs whose drugs were found in Umeå, but there may be more.
– It is impossible to say where everything comes from. And considering the seizure we made, there is probably twice as much that we haven’t found, says Thomas Palmgren.
Operation Frigg
Nationally, the police have started operation Frigg, where all police regions must work against the criminal networks involved in the violent conflicts in Stockholm.
Something that is also done in Västerbotten and it has yielded results. Sometimes the police may have seen someone they recognized and thus checked a person. But extensive reconnaissance is also carried out.
– It is good in a way that we make seizures, but the development is worrying, says Thomas Palmgren.
