A remarkable statement regarding Covid-19 vaccines came from Taiwan, where vaccinations continue to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19).
In the statement made after a panel attended by experts appointed by Taiwan’s Ministry of Health, it was announced that a woman in her 50s and surnamed “Yu” living in Taiwan’s capital Taipei died of a cerebral hemorrhage due to causes related to the Covid-19 vaccine.
In the statement made by the experts, it was stated that a decision was taken in the panel and according to this decision, the family of the woman who lost her life will be paid 200 thousand dollars compensation, which is the highest amount within the Taiwan Vaccine Compensation Program (VCIP).
Experts noted that more than 4,000 people applied for compensation in Taiwan, and as of February, only 300 of these claims had been reviewed.
Chuang Jen Hsiang, Director General of Taiwan Center for Disease Control, stated that this decision was calculated over the highest figure for the first time in Taiwan since 1988. Chuang stated that the woman who lost her life did not have any known chronic disease and the situation could not be associated with the very rare side effect of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, known as “thrombocytopenia syndrome thrombosis”, known as a blood coagulation disorder.
PAYMENT WILL BE MADE FOR THE OTHER 6 DEATHS
General Manager Chuang noted that there have been a total of 7 cases who lost their lives due to vaccines in Taiwan so far, and that, apart from the woman named “Yu”, the families of 6 patients who lost their lives will also be paid. Chuang also reported that 2 of the 6 people who lost their lives were Moderna, 3 from AstraZeneca, and 1 from Pfizer-BioNTech. Finally, stating that 500 thousand Taiwan dollars (258 thousand Turkish liras) was paid for each person who died after the vaccine in Taiwan, Chuang stated that these deaths were not directly related to the vaccine.
