March was an unusually busy month for the hundreds of thousands who ride commuter trains in the Stockholm area every day. Of 17,148 planned departures, 7,526 – 44 percent – were completely or partially cancelled, reports SVT Nyheter Södertälje.

It is the worst result ever and is mainly due to two things, according to SVT. The snow that fell during the month and the political decision to scrap the train attendants in the commuter service.

Another way in which the deficiencies in train traffic are felt is the sharply increasing expenses for delay compensation that can be claimed through SL’s travel guarantee, if you are forced to take a taxi to get to work.

So far, 7,688 applications have been received and SEK 2.6 million paid out for March, according to SVT.

That number will rise, as it is not uncommon for people to wait to send in their receipts.
