Rare event in Destiny 2 was rumored but really exists

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In Destiny 2 there are some public events in the open world. They rotate constantly through the locations and are always worth a detour. Since Lightfall, however, there’s also a special Public Event that’s bloody tough, guarantees exotic loot, and is so rare that some Wardens thought it was just a rumor.

Which event is it? Destiny 2 currently has a few events that can be encountered while exploring the open world. They start regularly, have a comfortable level of difficulty, and are a nice pastime for any Warden who happens to be passing by.

With Destiny 2: Lightfall, however, a new public event came into play that is very different. It’s called “Vex Battlegroup Oncoming” and it’s really rare. So rare that some Guardians have already mistaken it for a rumour.

In the meantime, however, we can confirm on MeinMMO: The event exists and it is extremely worthwhile – not only because of the Neomuna triumph “Unnecessary surprise attack”.

You can find out when the Battle Squad will start by checking the info of the active Public Event

A twisted form of escalation protocol

How do you find the event? First of all, the event with the “Vex Battle Squad” is well stealth and really rare. If you want to discover it, you have to look very closely, because at first glance it looks like an inconspicuous, normal public event on the map.

  • The “Vex Battlegroups Arrive” event takes place in the currently active Vex Incursion Zone on the Lightfall destination Neomuna
  • You can recognize the active zone by the fine, green stripes that trickle across the map
  • To discover it, you have to keep checking the event marker
  • If you’re already in the open world, keep an eye out for the event flag or the huge Vex conflux in the sky.
  • In the event you have to defeat a total of 6 Derelict Minotaurs to get the Exo-Loot

Now you either need a lot of patience or a bit of luck. It’s not uncommon for Guardians to report that they haven’t even discovered or played this event since Lightfall launched on February 28, 2023.

The Destiny editorial team at MeinMMO had a waiting time of over an hour when they first tried to catch the event. And that’s despite Bungie recently increasing the event’s spawn rate.

But this timeframe seems fitting, as other players also noted that the event would often take place at ten minutes past the hour.

This is how tough it gets at the event: If you’re lucky, that’s when the fun really begins. The event is basically the mother of all public events and is a bit reminiscent of the old escalation protocol from Mars.

  • You must defeat 6 giant Derivable Minotaurs during the event in order to close the open Vex Web portals again.
  • The mechanic is to keep breaking the minotaur’s shields and then deal damage.
  • So that it doesn’t get too easy, new Vex are constantly spawning and wiggling towards you.
  • There is also a timer that runs down mercilessly and puts you under pressure
  • The opponent’s power level rating is 1810 and is subject to Neomuna’s open world penalty. So players cannot overlevel and thus never trivialize the event.
  • So if you want to get the loot, you will almost certainly need the help of other guardians or your fireteam to make it happen.

This is what you get out of it: However, the challenging event “Vex Battlegroups Arrive” also offers something for your effort.

  • Upon first completion, you will receive the Unnecessary Surprise Attack Ritual Triumph
  • There is also a 100% guaranteed exotic armor piece from the loot chest if you are successful. Only the exotics that you already have in your collection will drop.
  • Also included is a Terminal Overload key, an increase in Neomuna reputation rank with Nimbus, and of course Glimmer and experience points
  • The event has these problems at the moment: However, the event still has shortcomings. Some players are reporting strange crashes and black screens just before the event ends. Specially on consoles. So Bungie needs to improve here and make sure that everyone who participated can also finish the rare event.

Have you had the fun of the Descendent Minotaurs yet? Or did you completely miss this almost secret event? Feel free to write us in the comments how long it took you until you played the event for the first time and whether bugs slowed you down.

Players also warn of a curious bug that primarily threatens the collection of veterans:
