Hundreds of them washed ashore Remaining images of giant pilot

Wildlife officers, marine scientists and veterinarians came to the Toby’s Inlet beach in the state of Western Australia today, upon the notice that more than 100 pilot whales washed ashore, and started working on the beach. Experts stated that they detected four herds of approximately 160 pilot whales spread along approximately 500 meters of coastline, and also detected a herd of 20 whales and another herd of 110 whales 1.5 km off the coast.

THEY ARE TRYING TO KEEP THE OFFSHOCKS AWAY FROM THE SHORE

“Our team is making every effort to respond safely, keep volunteers and staff safe, while also acting in the best interests of the whales,” officials said in a statement. Our team is assessing the situation of whales washed ashore on the beach. “Our teams in the water are trying to keep the animals together and away from the beach,” he said.

Recalling what happened in a similar incident last year, the teams stated that sometimes in such cases, the most humane outcome is euthanization of animals washed ashore. Experts emphasized that a herd had moved away from the shore and that they were monitoring their situation with a boat and observation plane. (DHA)
