After a night out in Gothenburg, the man dragged the woman to a park where he then raped her. – I never wanted to have sex, but he just said “I know you want to”, says the woman. Thanks to the social media Snapchat, the man was identified – and is now sentenced to prison and lifetime deportation. It was in mid-January that the woman visited Gothenburg together with a girl friend. At first they had a nice evening where they ate at a restaurant and visited various places on the pub- and nightclub-filled street Avenyn. A little later in the evening, when they arrived at a nightclub, the woman and her friend came into contact with two other men, one of whom, who was 22 years old, showed a particular interest in the woman. They drank champagne, cocktails and shots together before the woman and the 22-year-old left the club. In questioning, the woman says that it was cold and raining, but she does not remember why they chose to go out. – The next thing I remember is that we go outside and that I was cold. I only had my dress on. Identified via Snapchat The woman and the 22-year-old have since continued towards Kungsparken, which is nearby. A little way into the park, the man pushes her up against a tree and only then does she understand what was happening. – I never wanted to have sex, but he only said I know you want to, I said no so many times, the woman says in questioning. But the man didn’t care. He raped her and then left the scene. – It was as if I was an object or a thing, the woman explains in the interrogation. After the rape, she was found by two women, she was badly cut and crying. – Then we see a girl in just a dress standing and crying. We asked if she was okay, she said she wasn’t okay. She told me that she had been raped, says one of the women. The police were then called to the scene and drove the woman to the hospital. Dressed up as a construction worker Before the rape took place, the woman and the 22-year-old perpetrator had added each other as friends on Snapchat. The 22-year-old had also posted posts in “stories” where they partied together. In this way, the police could identify the man who could be arrested during the night in his absence. They later learned that the man worked on a construction site at Hisingen in Gothenburg. As the perpetrator lacked a work and residence permit in Sweden, civil police decided that the smartest trick to arrest the man was to dress up as a construction worker and visit the workplace. Once there, they were able to arrest the 22-year-old. In the District Court, the man claims that the intercourse took place with the consent of the woman, something that the Gothenburg District Court did not believe. Now the man is sentenced to three years in prison for rape and violent resistance. He is also sentenced to lifetime deportation and must pay over 200,000 kroner in damages to the woman.
