Rage against SAS: “Sending dogs to death”

Rage against SAS Sending dogs to death

“Stop sending dogs to their deaths, SAS”. That’s the title of an ongoing information campaign from Animal Rights.

It accuses the airline of transporting dogs to laboratories around Europe, thereby contributing to animal experiments.

“The dogs are forced to live in deficient environments and are subjected to painful tests, which Scandinavian Airlines, SAS, contributes to by allowing the transport of animals intended to be subjected to animal testing,” they write on their website.

SAS responds to the criticism

The transports were discovered for the first time in August 2023. Then it was revealed that thousands of dogs were funneled on to facilities and labs in Southern Europe since the beginning of 2021.

But that has been stopped since then, SAS states in a comment News24:

– We are a little surprised by the criticism because SAS has not carried out any such transports since last summer, says Irena Busicpress manager at SAS.

According to Djurens Rätt, several other companies in the transport and travel industry, including FedEx, UPS and British Airways, have implemented policies that prohibit the transport of animals to experimental facilities.

However, SAS does not.

– It is of course great if they have stopped transporting dogs to painful animal experiments, in that case the next step should be to go public and adopt a policy that says no to transporting animals to experimental labs, says Camilla Bergvallnational chairman of Djurens Rätt, to Nyheter24 and continues:

– Without a long-term and public commitment, there is no transparency on their part.

Nyheter24 contacted SAS again to see how they stand on the policy issue.

Djurens Rätt lacks a “long-term and public commitment” on your part. Do you have a policy, or plans for one? How do you approach similar transports in the future?

– We have no plans to resume transport.

Djurens Rätt states that their information campaign will continue until a decision on a policy against dog transport is introduced at SAS.
