In Senegal, the resumption of air traffic is confirmed, after the drastic drop linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. More than 715,000 passengers were registered at Blaise-Diagne International Airport between January and March 2023. The figure more than doubled compared to the same period in 2021, which corresponded to the discovery of new variants of Covid-19.

The national company Air Senegal remains the one that transported the most passengers in the first quarter, despite a decline in the volume of passengers. It is followed by Air France, Royal Air Maroc and Brussels Airlines. The most significant increase is that of Ethiopian Airlines, ” which doubles its activity compared to the first quarter of 2022 “underlines the Anacim.

Paris and Casablanca – in Morocco – remain the cities most connected to Dakar in both directions “, origin and destination. In the sub-region, it is with Abidjan that ” connectivity remains the most important “, further notes the Anacim.

Regarding freight, Air France is in the lead, ahead of Turkish Airlines and Air Senegal. The agency notes that freight-related traffic is ” three-quarters handled by non-African foreign companies » and encourages « efforts to increase the market shares of continental companies in this air transport activity.
