An influential Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin admits meddling in US elections.

– Gentlemen. We have interfered, we are interfering now and we will do so in the future as well, he said in his statement to the news agency Bloomberg.

US intelligence officials have assessed that the Russian administration sought to promote Donald Trump’s election for US President in the 2016 election.

Prigozhin has also been accused of running so-called troll factories in several Western countries.

Founder of a mercenary company

Prigozhin, 61, confirmed earlier in the fall that he had founded the Russian mercenary company Wagner. Wagner has been accused of numerous human rights violations in, for example, Ukraine, Syria and Libya.

In a statement in September, Prigozhin said he founded the company in 2014 to send fighters to Ukraine’s Donbass region.

Prigozhin is often referred to as Putin’s chef because the Russian president Vladimir Putin has dined in his restaurants and used catering services owned by him.

Prigozhin has been put under Western sanctions.
