PSG wins the Classic outnumbered against Marseille

PSG won again against Marseille (2-0), despite being enterprising and often dangerous, at the end of the 27th day of Ligue 1 this Sunday March 31. The Parisians are taking the lead in the championship and now seem out of reach of their competitors in the title race.

This is probably not the match that Kylian Mbappé was hoping for. For what was certainly his very last Classic played in Ligue 1 before his probable departure from PSG at the end of the season, the French striker did not score and was replaced on the hour mark during the logical victory of PSG, although reduced to ten before half-time, against Olympique de Marseille (2-0).

The first alert of the match came from the right wing, where Kolo Muani overflowed before serving Ruiz behind, who narrowly missed and did not find the target (4th). Just after, Danilo scared his team by being very close to deceiving Donnarumma after a failed check in the area (5th). Sharper than the Parisians at the start of the match, the Marseillais then increased the offensives, first on the first shot on target of the match from Aubameyang (14th), a little too soft to deceive the Italian goalkeeper, then on a much more powerful attempt from Veretout passed very close to the right post (16th).

Dembélé then created a good opportunity by eliminating several players to approach the Marseille goal, but he crossed his shot too much and did not really worry Pau López (30th). Just before the break, PSG suffered a hard blow with the expulsion of their Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo, already warned, following a rather innocuous contact with Aubameyang (40th).

PSG made the difference in numerical inferiority

Jostled in the first period and rough in the final meters, the Parisians tried to react from the start of the second act with a good attempt from Hakimi in the area, followed by a dangerous but off-target shot from Dembélé (49th). It was ultimately Vitinha who broke the deadlock in the match, by maneuvering a Parisian counter-attack before finishing the action himself with a good right strike (0-1, 53rd).

Veretout thought he would equalize a few minutes later by recovering Harit’s rejected shot (58th), but his goal was quickly disallowed for offside. Kylian Mbappé, appointed captain for this match, was then replaced by Gonçalo Ramos to everyone’s surprise (64th). The Phocaeans insisted on equalizing in the last quarter of an hour, notably on an attempt by Moumbagna stopped by the Parisian goalkeeper (78th) or an opportunity by Aubameyang who procrastinated too much in the area (84th).

The Parisians finally doubled their lead after a perfectly negotiated counterattack concluded by Gonçalo Ramos, full of composure in front of the Marseille goalkeeper (0-2, 85th). Donnarumma also distinguished himself by winning his duels against Moumbagna and Harit to deprive them of reducing the score (87th) before the final whistle. Already well ahead of Ligue 1 before the start of the match, PSG increases its lead more than ever with this new success and now seems assured of being crowned at the end of the season.
