The County Administrative Board in Stockholm has announced a protective hunt for wolves in an area north of Norrtälje. The announcement comes after two mini Shetland ponies were attacked last week.

“After the attack, new sightings of wolves have been received, which indicates that the wolf is still in the area and there is thus a risk of further attacks,” the county administrative board writes in a press release.

“We urge animal owners to review their fences, it is always important to minimize the risk of attacks,” says Sara Sundin, head of unit at the county administrative board, in a statement.

Protective hunting may take place around the clock in a limited area until May 31 at the latest.
