The prosecutor who wanted riot photos from Rosengård taken by photographers from eight Swedish newsrooms also loses in the Court of Appeal, reports several media.

“In a balanced assessment, the Court of Appeal, like the District Court, finds that the interest in releasing the requested films and photos is stronger than the reasons for releasing them,” the Court of Appeal writes in the decision, according to Journalisten.

The pictures were taken during unrest that started after a Koran was burned in Malmö in September. Prosecutor Henrik Nordquist requested access to all filmed and photographed material, but the media companies have refused citing source protection and the fact that it threatens journalistic independence.

At the beginning of the year, five young people were sentenced for involvement in the riot.
