“As a result of the negotiation process, 195 Russian soldiers were taken back from the lands under the control of the Kiev administration. In return, 195 soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were handed over. Russian soldiers will be transported to Moscow by planes to receive treatment at health centers affiliated with the Ministry. Medical and psychological support is provided to the released soldiers.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy also made a statement on social media regarding the prisoner exchange, saying, “207 of our soldiers and civilians returned home. We will bring back everyone who was captured. Work towards this is ongoing.” he said.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on January 24 that a Russian plane, including Ukrainian prisoners, was hit in the Belgorod region by a rocket fired by Ukraine.

It was stated in the statement that the plane had a crew of 6 people, 65 Ukrainian soldiers captured during the clashes and 3 Russian military personnel accompanying them, and that all the crew and passengers of the plane lost their lives.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in his statement following the incident, stated that it was unclear whether the prisoner exchange process between Russia and Ukraine would continue.
