Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, there was a shortage of supply in some basic foodstuffs in Germany, and the shelves remained empty. While there was a shortage of sunflower oil in the country, prices increased.
PRICES HAVE DOUBLED
The conflicts between Russia and Ukraine brought along supply shortages in Europe. There was a shortage of food in the markets due to products that could not be imported from Ukraine. In the markets, the aisles where basic foodstuffs such as sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, flour and pasta were kept completely empty. In some markets, only 4 liters per customer was restricted for sunflower oil, while the prices were doubled.
MARKET SHELVES ARE EMPTY
A statement from the Federal Association of Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Processors (BOGK) said: “There are only a few sunflower oil producers in Germany and 94 percent of the demand is imported. A shortage often leads to higher prices. In this case, the problem is even greater. “There is almost no sunflower oil left in the market. There is a big gap on the market shelves where sunflower oil should be.”
The German Oilseed Processing Industry Association (OVID) announced that Ukraine is an important sunflower and rapeseed oil exporter and that the product could not be supplied due to the crisis.
Nutritionists, on the other hand, suggest that alternative products can be used instead of oils with supply shortages, and recommend the use of coconut oil, butter or margarine. (UAV)
