Pollen allergy beware of royal jelly based food supplements

People allergic to pollen may also be at risk of allergy by consuming food supplements made from bee products.

In a press release, the National Food Safety Agency (ANSES) recalls the precautions to be taken when consuming food supplements containing royal jelly Where propolis. “In fact, pollens can be found in these beehive products or even in honey, without being explicitly mentioned” underlines ANSES. This is why it advises against people allergic to pollen but also to people predisposed to allergies or asthma to consume these products.

ANSES therefore recommends that people who wish to do a cure of these vitality supplements:

  • to report to a healthcare professional any undesirable effects occurring following the consumption of the food supplement
  • avoid multiple, prolonged or repeated intakes of food supplements during the year without having taken advice from a health professional.
  • to be vigilant with regard to products presenting abusive claims or products marketed outside controlled circuits, in particular via the internet.

In addition, ANSES reminds healthcare professionals of the importance of declaring nutrivigilance device cases of side effects suspected of being linked to the consumption of food supplements.
