A post circulated internationally on the social media application TikTok Friday has prompted area police to issue a warning.

This post contained a challenge that encouraged students to engage in violence towards their schools that day, Chatham-Kent police said.

As a result, Chatham-Kent police increased patrols around area schools as a precaution.

Police reminded members of the public of the implications that can arise with social media involvement and internet usage. Parents are encouraged to remain vigilant and educate their children.

Social media can be used for positive interactions, but improper usage can result in consequences, police added.

Man charged with break and enter

A man allegedly broke two windows to gain entry to a Chatham pharmacy Wednesday night.

Police later identified a suspect, who was already in custody awaiting a bail hearing. The property was also reportedly recovered, police added.

The 31-year-old Chatham man was arrested for the updated charge of break enter with intent to commit theft. He remained in custody pending the already scheduled bail hearing.

Break-ins investigated

Some time Wednesday evening between 7 pm and 8 pm, someone forced their way into a building on 4th Concession Line in Romney.

Taken were Dewalt drills, a Briggs and Stratton 3500 generator, microscope tooling, two 20-pound propane tanks and a flashlight.
