Norfolk OPP responded to Patterson Street at just after 10:30 am after receiving more than 20 calls.

“It was determined that an individual at the location had made over 20 non-emergency 911 calls, beginning shortly after 8 am, none of which involved an actual emergency,” OPP Const. Andrew Gamble said in a media release.

The 34-year-old man is also accused of causing damage to OPP property before he was taken into custody.

The man has been charged with public mischief and mischief under $5,000. He was held in custody to await a bail hearing.

False calls take police away from real emergency situations, said the release.

“Such calls divert valuable resources and time away from real emergencies, potentially endangering lives,” said Gamble. “The resources spent responding to unnecessary calls could be better utilized to assist those in genuine need, highlighting the importance of using 9-1-1 responsibly.”

Norfolk OPP officers responded to an ongoing act of mischief on West Street at about 12:30 pm on Sunday.

Three people, who police say appeared to be teenagers, had forced their way into a vehicle parked near the hospital and attempted to access other vehicles.

The trio left the area on foot, said police.

An hour later, police arrested one of the suspects on Queen Street North.

“Upon searching them, officers discovered a quantity of stolen property, along with suspected cocaine and ecstasy,” said a news release.

A 15-year-old from Dundas has been charged with obstructing a peace officer, drug possession, six counts of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of failing to comply with a release order and mischief under $5,000.

The accused was held in custody to await a bail hearing.

An hour later, police arrested a second suspect, also on Queen Street North in Simcoe.

Police allege the suspect was in possession of stolen property at the time of the arrest.

A 15-year-old Norfolk resident has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and mischief under $5,000.

The accused is expected to appear in court at a later date.
