Police blotter: Thefts, thefts and more thefts

A 24-year-old Brantford man is facing multiple charges following a collision involving a stolen vehicle.

The charges stem from a Monday afternoon incident that began with an investigation into a vehicle theft on Old Highway 24 in Waterford.

Norfolk OPP learned that an individual wearing a ski mask stole a vehicle parked on the premises. The vehicle was last seen heading north on Old Highway 24.

The stolen vehicle, a blue 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was then involved in a rollover collision on Thompson Road East in Townsend. Following the collision, the suspect unsuccessfully tried to steal a vehicle from a motorist, who had stopped to provide assistance.

Norfolk OPP subsequently located the suspect and took him into custody. The suspect is also accused of damaging OPP property and assaulting one of the arresting officers, Norfolk OPP said.

Police subsequently learned the same person was a suspect in the theft of a quantity of alcohol from a Queensway East business in Simcoe at about 12:30 pm on Monday.

The accused has been charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, driving impaired, failing to comply with a request to provide a breath sample, driving while prohibited, failing to comply with probation, theft under $5,000 (shoplifting), assault, assault a peace officer and mischief under $5,000.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

Backpacks stolen

A 19-year-old Tilbury man has been charged after several backpacks filled with wallets, Canadian currency and passports were stolen from a Lakeshore Road address in South Walsingham on Monday afternoon.

Norfolk OPP were sent to the location just before 4 pm on May 6 and, upon further investigation, located an individual on the premises who had a stolen bank card.

The accused has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court in Simcoe on June 4.

Thefts from vehicles

Norfolk OPP is again reminding residents to remove all valuables from their vehicles following an incident at an Evergreen Hill Road address in Simcoe.

Officers were sent to the address at about 10:30 am May 3 to investigate a theft from a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers determined that one or more individuals entered two vehicles at the address.

A wallet was stolen from one of the vehicles, Norfolk OPP said.

Dirt bike stolen

Norfolk OPP is investigating the theft of a dirt bike from a Highway 3 address in the Courtland area.

The theft took place sometime overnight on May 3 to May 4 when a garage was entered and a blue 2003 Yamaha YZ250f was taken.
