Police blotter: Intimate partner violence, impaired driving and theft

A 42-year-old Norfolk County woman has been charged following an intimate partner violence investigation.

Norfolk OPP officers were sent to a Norfolk County address at about 7:41 pm Oct. 23 to investigate a report of a disturbance. No injuries were reported.

Upon arrival, officers took one person into custody without incident.

The woman has been charged with spousal assault and mischief – domestic. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Vehicle theft

Norfolk OPP are investigating two reports of vehicles being stolen.

Police say a red 2018 Mitsubishi RVR SUV was taken from a Norfolk Street North, Simcoe address sometime overnight on Oct. 22 to Oct. 23. The theft was reported to Norfolk OPP at 8:40 am

Officers were also sent to a 1st Concession Road ENR, Norfolk County address west of Port Rowan at about 1 pm Monday. Upon arrival, officers learned that a white 2012 Ford F-250 pick-up truck had been stolen sometime between 4 pm Oct. 20 and 1 pm Oct. 23.

Police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and to remove all valuables.

Impaired driving

Norfolk OPP have charged three people with impaired driving in three separate incidents that occurred over the Oct. 21-22 weekend.

Police charged a 28-year-old Norfolk man following a single-vehicle collision at a Main Street South, Waterford address just before 3:20 am Upon arrival, police determined the vehicle left the roadway and struck a hydro pole. The driver then fled the scene, police said.

The OPP emergency response team and the OPP canine unit were called in to investigate to help Norfolk OPP officers find the driver. Following an extensive search, the suspect was located at a Main Street South address suffering minor injuries.

During a search of the vehicle, police found a prohibited weapon.

The suspect has been charged with: failure to comply with an undertaking; failure to comply with a prohibition order; dangerous operation of a vehicle; impaired driving; driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood; failure to stop following a collision; driving while prohibited; three counts of failing to comply with a probation order; occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon; failure to report damage to property and driving while under suspension.

The suspect was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Norfolk OPP on Sunday (Oct. 22), charged a 29-year-old Norfolk County man with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.

The suspect was charged following a single-vehicle collision at a Nixon Road, Windham address just before 1 am Police determined the vehicle left Nixon Road and went into a ditch.

Both the driver and passenger fled the scene on foot, police said.

Norfolk OPP officers with the help of the OPP emergency response team and the OPP canine unit found the suspects at a Windham Road 13 address. They were taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported, police say.

The driver is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Nov. 14.

Meanwhile, police have also charged the passenger, a 29-year-old Norfolk man, with obstructing police. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 21.

Norfolk OPP were then called to single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Sunday (Oct.22) evening.

Officers were dispatched to a Simcoe Street address outside of Tillsonburg just after 7 pm Upon arrival, it was determined by police that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and then left the area.

No injuries were reported.

Norfolk OPP officers on patrol quickly located the suspect vehicle at a Simcoe Street address and the driver was taken into custody without incident.

Police have charged a 20-year-old Norfolk man with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19.
