Pokémon GO leaves trainers waiting for hours for an important Rocket event to start

Pokémon GO is supposed to be taken over by Team GO Rocket at midnight, but they probably overslept in the first time zones. The Rocket event isn’t even active there yet. We have summarized how the trainers react to this and what that means for you here on MeinMMO.

What event is it about? In Pokémon GO you can regularly meet the members of Team GO Rocket. At least once a season they receive their own event, in which they not only get new teams, but are also found more often and are accompanied by bonuses. It should happen again at midnight on March 27, 2024 as part of the World of Wonders: Takeover event.

In the first regions, the event should have been going on for hours due to the time difference. But nothing is happening there, as trainers say on social networks. We will explain to you what effects this could have on us and how the coaches are reacting to the situation.

Update from March 26, 2024 10:30 p.m.: As the trainers announced on social networks, the event is now active in the earlier time zones. This is what MeliaseMaree writes on Reddit: 9:30 a.m. Update: I’m tired! But it seems the event finally went live around 5:30 am.

But be careful: other trainers, like Simliar-Student-6773, say that they have problems with Giovanni’s new team despite the active event. This is what he writes on Reddit: I used my Super Rocket Radar during the new event and got Crypto-Kyogre from Giovanni again, how is that possible? All the other leaders and bullies have the new Pokémon.

It cannot currently be said with certainty whether the event in Germany will start on time at midnight, but it can be assumed. We’ll keep you updated here.

Coaches wait in vain for new Rocket teams

What did coaches observe? In New Zealand, players were supposed to have access to the Rocket event and fight against the new teams at 12:00 p.m. German time, but as they announced on social networks, nothing happened.

While such problems usually only occur for a short time and the event content is added as quickly as possible, this time it seems as if the event was simply forgotten. Because even hours after the actual start, trainers are still waiting impatiently for the spawns and quests.

This is also the case for New Zealand Reddit user MeliaseMaree, who shares regular updates in his Reddit post. This is how he writes:

After midnight in New Zealand and no takeover event

[…] UPDATE: now past 1am in New Zealand and still no sign of the event.
To be clear – it’s not in the Today tab. There is no free time-limited research. The Rocket monsters haven’t changed. The spawns have not changed. There is no Rocket Box in the shop. …. However, the paid research ticket can be purchased.

How do other players react to this news? Trainers from neighboring time zones also confirm these statements in the comments and sometimes make fun of Niantic:

  • Anonymousss: Can confirm that nothing can be found in Australia either. No spawns, no quest, nothing happens now. I happen to have a radar and Sierra still has a bat.
  • juqki: Maybe you need to activate ‘Time Noise’, spin your phone seven times and develop a shiny Bidiza so that the event only starts after you catch a Ditto?
  • umbongo44dd: Trainers around the world will be able to work together to complete a challenge! When 1 million Special Research tickets are sold, we’ll flip the switch and start the event – if you’re lucky!
  • What could be behind the failure? But there are also initial assumptions as to why this failure occurred. As MeliaseMaree shares in his post, the lack of launch could have something to do with the times in the different announcements. If you look at Niantic’s blog post, the event was given a start time of 00:00 local time.

In their original event overview on X, which lists all events from March, but only at 10:00 a.m. local time. There may have been a (communications) error here, as some write in the Reddit comments:

  • This is how MeliaseMaree explains further: 3:30 a.m. Update: I have now discovered the infographic that Niantic posted on Twitter… But not in the game nor the blog post.. It states that the event starts at 10 a.m. So I think… I don’t know, this company is very frustrating! I am going to sleep now. Hopefully it will be fixed for other countries, but I would be surprised if they extend it for New Zealand.
  • And krispyboiz is also eagerly waiting to see if the event starts at 10:00 a.m. local time: I’m curious to see if the event ends up happening at 10 a.m. and they screwed up the announcement.
  • What does a delayed start mean for us in Germany?

New event times: If the event actually doesn’t start until 10:00 a.m. local time in New Zealand, then we will probably only start the event with a corresponding delay. The content would therefore only be available here on March 27th at 10:00 a.m. German time.

But in the March announcement, not only was the start time different, but also the end. The event would therefore only run until 8:00 p.m. local time on March 31st and would therefore end 4 hours earlier. Whether this is actually the case cannot be said with certainty at this point, as an official statement from Niantic is still pending.

Rocket teams: Another important change that will also affect European players due to a later start is the team change. The members of Team GO Rocket should benefit from new monsters. In the past, these were always set for the Rocket members at PokéStops at midnight for the entire day, which is why team changes at similar events always only took place the following day.

If that is also the case at this event, then it would be possible that you will only be able to find the new Rocket boss monsters, Giovanni’s new Crypto-Groudon and the new bully teams in the game from March 28, 2024. However, in balloons they will usually be available after the actual event start.

Less time for quests: Shorter event times also mean you have less time to solve your limited research or unlearn frustration from your monsters.

Whether Niantic will take countermeasures again and possibly extend the event remains to be seen. If there is new information about this, you can find out from us on MeinMMO.
