The overall leader, the Dane, Vingegaard and the pre-favorite Tadej Pogacar from Slovenia fought a furious battle against each other in the many, and long climbs during the stage. After a sprint battle, Pogacar won, shrinking Vingegaard’s lead by four seconds. This means that Vingegaard retains the yellow leader jersey and leads by two minutes and 18 seconds.
McNulty took third place after being suspended from the lead with less than 500 meters left of the race.
Four stages remain of this year’s edition of the traditional cycling competition.
