PNRR, Gentiloni: it is not a bureaucratic tile to manage, but a very important challenge for the EU

PNRR Gentiloni it is not a bureaucratic tile to manage

(Finance) – The EU Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Paul Gentlemenunderlined that the PNRR “It’s not a bureaucratic tile that has fallen on us and that we have to manage somehow.” Speaking at the meeting ofAnci in Genoa Gentiloni affirmed the need to have “a positive story about Next Generation Eu“. “I think this can come from the mayors”, he added, because the European Commission “very much appreciates your work” he declared, addressing the first Italian citizens.

“There are countries where they do roadshows on the PNRR, I would like to see a roadshow in Italy”, he added. “We need to work together: government, municipalities, social partners, all the actors in our system” declared Gentiloni. “If it is true that this is a extraordinary occasionwho with a little caution the president Mattarella has approached the Marshall Plan, I think we must be aware that the challenge we face is also very important for the project European“. “The future of this European dimension depends very much on whether this extraordinary operation does not turn into a chimera and a flash in the pan,” he said.

“I assure you that the difficulties are European – continued the EU Commissioner –. Almost all the countries have asked the Commission to review their plans, because there is inflation, the energy crisis. This is first priority national and the government knows it perfectly. The revised plans of 9 countries have been approved so far, we are discussing those of another 16, including the Italian one. There is one problem to be aware of: this discussion has an end. There revision of the plans is only possible by the end of 2023.”

“We, the Commission, work to do everything possible to meet the requests of edit of the various countries. The plan can be remodulated but its ambition must not be scaled down”, explained Gentiloni. The challenge is therefore “how to correct it without the resulting plan being less ambitious in terms of investments. So redefine the plans but don’t decrease theambition“.
