Players feel conned by Blizzard – “I refuse to play the game”

For Thursday, July 6th, Blizzard had announced a big live stream for Diablo: The fans mainly expected information about Diablo 4. But the show started very differently.

This was the situation:

  • For the 6.7. a big live stream of Diablo was announced.
  • The stream was a resounding success for Blizzard: at its peak, 118,000 people watched on Twitch alone.
  • But after the stream, some users on reddit are angry because they expected information about Diablo 4. But the show started with Diablo Immortal. Players feel like Blizzard abused their love for Diablo 4 to push Diablo Immortal promotions into them.

This is their complaint: There is a thread on reddit with almost 9,000 upvotes, where people are annoyed that in the large live stream Blizzard employees tried to use the huge interest in Diablo 4 and Season 1 to promote their allegedly unpopular mobile Promote the game Diablo Immortal.

Of the 90 minutes of the stream, about the first 20 minutes were devoted to the game Diablo Immortal.

The Dotesports website even speaks of a “Trojan horse”: Diablo 4 was used to smuggle information about Diablo Immortal to many players.

How are the reactions? The most popular comment on the thread is:

  • “Don’t you guys have internet?” – a reference to a legendary line at the launch of Diablo Immortal.
  • Another player says he didn’t like that Blizzard used Diablo 4 to show so many Diablo 1 now. It’s the same thing back then at BlizzCon, when you presented a mobile game to a PC audience who paid for the event.
  • A third user explains: He came to the stream too late and was then confused as to why Diablo 4 was already getting a new class. Only later would they have understood that it is not about Diablo 4, but about Immortal.
  • Why is the game so hated? It’s solely because of the micro-transactions that Diablo players are so hostile to Immortal.

Again and again it is said that it is actually a good game, but infested with micro-transactions and a terrible Pay2Win torment.

A player says. “Trade offer – YOU get a little shot of dopamine – I get: all your money.”

A second user says clearly. “I refuse to play this game.”

How would it have been better from the player’s point of view? Diablo 4 players wish that Blizzard had either left the Immortal part out of the stream entirely, or at least put it at the end instead of the beginning to make it easier to skip. It would be better if you just separate the streams.

But you can’t really blame Blizzard: at least they were transparent and already said on June 30 how the stream would run and that Diablo Immortal would start.
