Robert Mitchell, 49, from Sarnia, is facing charges of possessing an unauthorized firearm, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, police said.

Mitchell appeared Friday afternoon in Sarnia bail court, where he was kept in custody and the case was adjourned to Tuesday. In the meantime, he was banned from contacting the complainant and two others.

But just as the justice of the peace made the decision, Mitchell appeared to suffer a medical emergency. Security scrambled to help him and court was briefly closed.

Mitchell, appearing to be feeling better, briefly appeared again Tuesday morning in court through a video link from the Sarnia Jail, where the Crown said new charges were coming, although they didn’t say what they were.

Court documents with the new charges weren’t immediately available Tuesday.
