Players complete 400 dungeons in 18 days to find out where the best loot is

A Diablo 4 player has made it his mission to find out at which tier level you have to tackle Nightmare dungeons in order to have the best chance of getting good loot. Over the course of 18 days, he completed 400 dungeons between tier levels 21 and 100 and collected more than 8,000 items. His conclusion: Instead of level 100, you should aim for level 65.

What kind of experiment was that?

  • The player fpsthirsty was tired of grinding to level 100 and set himself a task that was varied for him and useful for the community.
  • He gradually completed the Nightmare dungeons from levels 21 to 100: always completing 5 of them per tier level and noting down what ancestral items came out.
  • He played from August 17th to September 3rd and took about 18 days.

Tier level 40 is the first important threshold in dungeons

What did he find out? You can read the exact evaluation and results of his self-study here.

    The summarized findings are:

  • If you are looking for the strongest items with a power level of more than 785, playing tier 20 is enough. Even there you can find items with a high power level.
  • However, an important value is tier level 40. From tier level 20 to 39, the item average is significantly lower than from 40. From this level onwards, the average item value is around 775.
  • Above tier level 40, the average strength of the items found increases only slightly, but the probability of finding ancestral items increases: a tier 100 dungeon has a 60% higher drop probability than a dungeon level 40.

Tier level 65 should be a good goal for many players in Diablo 4

What does that mean in brief? You should farm a Nightmare Dungeon at tier level 40 or higher, as long as you can comfortably progress through a dungeon at that level.

However, there is little point in increasing your tier level significantly if it takes you much longer to do so.

As PC Gamer writes, this is “counter-intuitive” because it assumes that tier level 100 would be particularly worthwhile. But the statistics say that this is not the case.

In higher tiers you get more items, but not necessarily better ones. In return, a tier 100 dungeon takes significantly longer than a tier 40 dungeon. For most players, staying somewhere around tier 65 will probably pay off.
