Peter Madsen’s love letter in prison is stopped

During his life sentence for the murder of Kim Wall, Peter Madsen has met and sent letters to women.
Now the court rules that he gets a contact ban in all but one case.
– It has been a big problem. Among other things, it has been a minor who made contact, says Therese Cedergren, TV4 Nyhetern’s crime reporter.

Life-sentenced murderer Peter Madsen reportedly continued to have limited visits with the women who caught his eye after he was convicted of murdering Kim Wall.

The court ruled that today with the justification that his human rights were not violated by limited visits and phone calls.

– It has been a big problem. Among other things, there has been a minor who made contact and exchanged letters with him and she fell very in love, says Therese Cedergren, TV4 Nyheternas crime reporter.

Then he took the prison to court

In February 2022, a new law was enacted in Denmark which means that a life sentence without permission may not receive visitors for the first ten years of the sentence. It concerns acquaintances that they did not have before they received their sentence and concerns the exchange of letters, telephone calls and visits. The aim should be to prevent the prison from becoming so-called “dating centres”.

Earlier this year, Peter Madsen opposed this law, and took his prison to court.

– Before the murder of Kim Wall, he was surrounded by a lot of women. This is clearly something that he wants to continue to have, this lifestyle surrounded by women, says Therese Cedergren, TV4 Nyheternas crime reporter.

Smuggled out love letters

The women Madsen has had contact with include a 20-year-old woman to whom he smuggled out love letters, a 53-year-old woman with whom he exchanged letters and a prison guard with whom he began a relationship when he was in custody for the murder of Kim Wall in 2017 .

Madsen himself believes that the contact with the latter woman took place before the arrest warrant was issued and therefore the law should not apply, which the court ruled today.

The psychologist: That’s why women are drawn to doomed men

Monica Emanell has been a psychologist in several Swedish institutions and believes that women’s interest in convicted men is due to romanticisation.

– These men have received media attention, so it can be a bit like having contact with a celebrity. It can be a bit exciting that way. Then some women want to convert these men so that they can maybe bring out the good in them, says Monica Emanell and continues:

– The more serious crimes these men commit, the more letters of admiration they receive and the more women contact them.
