Set up in 2019 by the government, the Pharos platform received several thousand reports after the urban riots that followed Nahel’s death in Nanterre. These have already led to the arrest of several people and the opening of dozens of investigations.

Pharos, acronym for Platform for harmonization, analysis, cross-checking and orientation of reports, seems to be a useful tool in the fight against illegal content. Some 2,700 reports have been received since June 27, the date of the death of young Nahel killed in Nanterre during a police check, and during the urban violence that followed across France, Franceinfo reported, Monday, August 28. Mainly videos of looting, fires or damage sent by Internet users to this platform of the Ministry of the Interior.
Move forward faster
These reports allowed investigators to move forward more quickly. Thirty-two people have already been arrested, some are currently serving a prison sentence or are required to wear electronic bracelets. These suspects were able to be identified by the investigators thanks to videos posted on social networks by citizens, showing looting of shops, schools, or even fires at police stations. A hundred investigations for more serious facts are in progress.
Apart from these reports to Pharos, nearly 2,000 convictions have been pronounced after arrests in flagrante delicto.
