Emil Ruusuvuori on the sidelines from the Davis Cup Canada match

The Finnish team’s preparation for the most important match in our country’s tennis history so far got a nasty bump right before the match. Finland’s number one player Emil Ruusuvuori is sidelined from the Davis Cup opening match against Canada due to injury. According to Urheilu, it is a shoulder injury.

– Until the end, Emil tried, but didn’t have time to recover for this match. However, we are going to fight one point at a time, Finnish national team captain Jarkko Nieminen tells Urheilu.

In the first singles match, Ruusuvuoren will be replaced by Patrick Kaukova. He was excellent with Harri Heliövaara in the doubles match against the United States, when Finland secured a place in the final tournament in September. Finland beat the United States in the doubles set 6–7(6–8), 7–6(7–5), 10–8 and in the opening part of the entire final stage with 3–0 matches.

There are also changes in Canada’s lineup. Canada’s top player Félix Auger-Aliassime will also not be seen in the match against Finland. Milos Raonic, who has not played a single match in the Davis Cup this season, will play in his place.

For the first time, Finland is among the world’s top eight countries in the Davis Cup final.
