John Wick has had an incredible triumph on the big screen and a Wave of action films started, who tried to copy the concept. But it wasn’t just John Wick that was released in cinemas in 2014. The Equalizer series, which has become major Wick competition, also has its origins here.

In The Equalizer films, Denzel Washington takes on the role of Former agent Robert McCall, who has not lost his sense of justice even in retirement. Meanwhile, he takes the law into his own hands, which makes for some very brutal action. On Sunday you can watch the whole thing in The Equalizer 2.

In the second part of the action series, McCall ended up in Massachusetts. Here he is staying in a modest apartment complex. During the day he works as a Lyft driver without attracting much attention. At night he unpacks the weapons and takes revenge for all the people who are unable to do it themselves.

When a boy from the neighborhood gets into trouble, McCall does everything he can to get him back. Before he knows it, he finds himself in one larger conspiracy again, which is connected to his own past. Last but not least, a colleague from the old days is found dead in Brussels.

The Equalizer 2 delivers relentless action and provides Washington with a good cast, including Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Bill Pullman (Independence Day). You can also see The Last of Us and The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal in one of his lesser-known roles from recent years.

The Equalizer 2 premieres October 1, 2023 at 10:30 p.m. on ProSieben. The broadcast lasts until 12:55 a.m. with advertising. The repeat follows at 2:05 a.m. Alternatively, you can stream the film with a subscription on Netflix. Netflix also has the first part available. Part 3, the conclusion of the series, is currently still showing in cinemas. It turns out to be a bit more brutal than its predecessors.
