After a nearly four-month probe, investigators determined more than $21,000 was fraudulently obtained from the Children, Community and Social Services Ministry, Children and Youth Services Ministry and Ontario Disability Support Program between 2021 and 2023, police said.

Two suspects were arrested Thursday, police said.

A Chatham woman, 30, and man, 34, each faced two counts of fraud over $5,000, police said. They were held pending a bail hearing.

Man charged after disturbance

A man faces charges after officers were called to a disturbance on Keil Drive South in Chatham about midday Thursday, Chatham-Kent police say.

Officers learned an argument between a man and woman had turned physical, police said. The woman left and called police.

A Chatham man, 30, is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault and uttering threats, police said. He was released with conditions and a May 27 short date.

Pair arrested after 911 hang-up

A 911 hang-up call led to the arrest of two suspects in a January theft probe, Chatham-Kent police say.

An officer responding to the 911 hang-up on Bloomfield Road about 6:30 am found a man and woman, police said. Investigation revealed both were wanted in the theft probe and the man also wanted for failing to attend court on other matters.

A Chatham woman, 41, is charged with theft and possessing stolen property, police said. She was released with a May 13 short date.

A Leamington man, 41, is charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, three counts of mischief, five counts of theft and five counts of possessing stolen property, police said. He was released with a May 27 short date.
