Over 40 dead in attack in Congo-Kinshasa

The notorious Codeco militia reportedly attacked the camp in Ituri province in the north-east of the country overnight Monday, according to a local official. The search for victims continues and the death toll may therefore rise.

The Codeco militia has been spreading fear in northeastern Congo-Kinshasa for a long time and has been blamed for a series of ethnically motivated massacres. The militia is one of several armed groups in the province of Ituri, where attacks that claim dozens of lives are common.
