We had to wait almost two years to find Oppo with a high-end smartphone in France. We were able to test the Oppo Find X8 Pro and we liked it despite a few small flaws.
Oppo is indeed returning to France in 2024 after having made a short crossing of the desert which forced the brand to no longer market devices in the territory for several months. After an Oppo Reno 12 released during the summer of 2024, the Chinese firm is this time unveiling a new high-end smartphone. The only device in the X8 range to be released here (other countries are entitled to a less expensive model), the Oppo Find X8 Pro mixes several large components and technologies to establish itself in an already very competitive market.
We were able to spend several weeks with the Oppo Find X8 Pro as phone main and this one turns out to be particularly successful on several, not without having some faults.

A design that’s hard to ignore
For the design of the Oppo Find X8 Pro, the firm continues to display a proposal that is both sober and difficult not to notice. The front of the smartphone is quite classic with a screen size of 6.7 inches (a little less than the previous generation) and a selfie sensor placed in the upper center of the panel. A rare enough fact in 2024 to be underlined: the Find X8 Pro screen is not flat, but curved on the sides which gives a certain impression of width when consuming content, but we will come back to that later.
The back of the Oppo Find X8 Pro is distinguishable from a thousand. The phone has two colors available: a very sober “Stellar Black” and a “Pearl White” which looks like marble with its few small touches of gradient white. The feeling to the touch remains very pleasant even if we are often afraid that the phone will slip out of our hands.
But what especially catches our attention is obviously the Find X8 Pro’s photo sensor which is both imposing, but smaller than the previous generation. This module which brings together the three photo lenses is also signed with the “H” of the Hasselblad brand which is still a partner of Oppo’s high-end smartphones. This huge photo sensor, however, is not that heavy and Oppo seems to have worked well on the weight of the phone which remains pleasant to hold in your hand on a daily basis.
On the edge of the device, we find the volume and power buttons on the right of the Oppo Find X8 Pro. Smaller hands may have some trouble reaching the volume increase, but overall, these buttons fall well under the thumb when used one-handed. On the right side, we find a “switch” which allows you to switch the Find X8 Pro between “silent”, “vibration” and “ring” modes.
Finally, let’s talk about a final button dedicated to controlling the camera. The latter is well hidden since we didn’t even notice it when we first took it in hand! Located below the power and volume buttons, it works more or less in the same way as the “camera control” found on the latest iPhone 16but in a simpler way: a double tap to open the camera, a swipe to control the zoom and a tap to take a photo. If we therefore do not have the filters integrated into this button, the latter turns out to be much more pleasant and precise to use than that of the iPhone 16 which often proves complicated to handle.
A pretty screen, but lacking a little pep
The Oppo Find X8 Pro has a 6.7-inch panel which has a maximum brightness of up to 4,500 nits. An honorable score therefore, but one that we would have liked to see a little more controlled since several reports show that it is almost impossible for the phone to reach such a level. This is sometimes felt when we use the Find X8 Pro next to another Android smartphone where readability will sometimes be much better. Nothing particularly disabling however, but we wanted to emphasize it.
In terms of colorimetry, the Oppo Find X8 Pro offers three types of display depending on your preferences. Fans of bright colors will quickly use the “vivid” mode to display colors much more clearly on the screen and it is also the one we recommend. In its so-called “natural” basic configuration, the Oppo Find X8 Pro lacks a little liveliness in its color reproduction, especially if you come from a Google Pixel or a Motorola.
The Find X8 Pro also offers two types of screen resolution: standard and high. The difference between the two, however, turns out to be quite minimal during everyday use and we therefore recommend staying on a standard resolution to save battery life.
Here are some performances you want
For its return to France with a new high-end smartphone, Oppo had to mark the occasion by offering premium components. This is why the Find X8 Pro is equipped with a processor from Mediatek, the Dimensity 9400.
For an average user, this SoC presents itself as excellent: the animations of the Find X8 Pro are fluid and all of our operations follow each other with ease. During our weeks of testing, we did not notice any slowdown or complete shutdown of our applications, even when alternating between them. A very good point therefore.
Gamers are also well served since the Dimensity 9400 seems well suited for gaming. Quite resource-demanding titles like Wuthering Waves or even Honkai: Star Rail automatically launch with graphics set to “high”. Our gaming sessions were rather smooth even if 60 FPS is rarely reached with the highest configuration. However, it is undoubtedly one of the most powerful smartphones of 2024.
To accommodate the high performance of the Dimensity 9400 processor, Oppo has also worked on heat dispersion within the Find X8 Pro. The result is remarkable since even after several hours of video games on the smartphone, we only felt a slight heating of the latter. This should reassure us about the lifespan of the components.
Sublime photos from near and far
The Oppo Find X8 Pro is equipped with no less than four photo sensors to give you several possibilities on a daily basis. These four sensors have 50 Mpx and are established as follows: main sensor, ultra wide angle, x3 telephoto lens and x6 telephoto lens. The Find X8 Pro’s main sensor and ultra-wide angle are, unsurprisingly, very good. The photos produced are full of details and the colorimetry is quite accurate. The zoom results are surprisingly very good as well, even when the light is a little lacking like during our concert where we still managed to obtain rather decent results while being very far from the stage. The smartphone, however, finds its limits in the most distant zooms.
The phone has a watermark automatically integrated into your photos. The latter is completely optional, but it is quite surprising to see it activated by default.
Note also the reaction speed of the Oppo Find the best result.
Excellent battery life for really fast charging
Oppo has equipped its Find X8 Pro with a large 5910 mAh battery which, on paper, should allow it to enjoy good battery life. A data that we confirm since we never ran out of battery using the Find X8 Pro on a daily basis. Unplugged around 8 a.m., the phone still showed 55% battery at the end of our work day around 6-7 p.m. A very nice score, but not really surprising given the resources allocated by the brand.
Once our smartphone has run out of battery, it is time to recharge it. The Oppo Find X8 Pro is compatible with 80W wired charging, but no charger is present in the box. You will therefore need to equip yourself with a compatible charger to make the most of its fast charging.
If some brands dare to talk about “fast charging” for their smartphones limited to 25 W which take their time to refuel, this is not the case for the Oppo Find X8 Pro which fully charges in just under an hour . Another very good point therefore.
Efficient connectivity and good communications
We were able to test the Oppo Find X8 Pro for a little over two weeks as a primary and auxiliary smartphone. The latter was coupled with multiple other devices such as CMF or Google connected watches, but also headsets and earphones from Apple, Google, Samsung and Nothing. We have never had any problems pairing with other devices and the Oppo Find X8 Pro works perfectly when paired with other Bluetooth devices. The smartphone even has a connection with iPhone in order to send files to each other smoothly and intuitively. Very practical!
On the communications side, we also have nothing to deplore and our telephone conversations with the Oppo Find X8 Pro have always been impeccable for us or our interlocutors.
Our conclusion to the Oppo Find X8 Pro test
Oppo definitely scores a big blow with this Find X8 Pro which also marks its return to France on the high-end smartphone market. The Oppo Find Oppo has also worked very well on heat dispersion within its smartphone since we never felt any pronounced heating during use. The other big strong point of the Find X8 Pro clearly comes from its photographs which are often very good even when zooming.
On the negative side, the grip is not the best on the market and the back of the Find X8 Pro tends to slip out of the hands. An observation also valid for the buttons of the device which can sometimes be difficult to access. Finally, we somewhat deplore the number of applications preinstalled or suggested when the phone is first launched.
