OPP investigating cruelty to animal complaint after emu killed

Haldimand OPP are investigating a cruelty to animal complaint after an emu was killed at a Fisherville property.

Police were called just after 11 am on Wednesday to an address on Haldimand Road 20. Their investigation determined two people damaged a fence to get into a closed animal pen between 3 am and 3:30 am

Police say an emu “was injured by unknown means” and died. Video surveillance is being reviewed in the hope of identifying the suspects, say police.

They warn that causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is a criminal offense that carries a penalty of up to five years in jail.
