only voluntary easy Jet employees will operate flights to Israel

More than six months after the start of the war in Gaza, the conflict continues to disrupt air traffic. Although many companies have resumed their flights to Tel Aviv, we cannot speak of a return to normal. Illustration with easy Jet: no flight from Paris is planned for at least six months. In Switzerland, the decision to resume flights is not passed on to employees who fear for their safety. A compromise was found.

The largest union at Geneva airport, the SSP, denounced a totally unacceptable decision by easy Jet while Ben Gurion airport in Israel is exposed daily to rocket fire. The employees were questioned and almost none wanted to board, explains Jamshid Pouranpir, union secretary of the SSP: “ 93% of staff opposed flying to Tel Aviv for security reasons. People are worried because Swiss labor law requires employers to protect their employees. If employees are afraid of flying to a destination, it is the employer’s duty not to assign them to those flights. »

Other companies concerned

An agreement was reached: only volunteer employees will operate the two weekly flights to Tel Aviv. No sanctions will be taken against others, assures the company. The measure only concerns Swiss Easy Jet, but it could quickly spread. In Zurich, more and more Swiss pilots and cabin crew are withdrawing from flights to Israel. The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs still advises Swiss nationals against traveling to the country.
