One of the most successful superhero films of all time

Caught between the two mainstays of the biggest superhero event in history, a rather inconspicuous MCU entry appeared in 2019: Captain Marvel started just a few weeks before Avengers: Endgame, which ended an entire Marvel era.

The enormous success of Brie Larson’s solo film was somewhat lost: with box office receipts of around $1.13 billion Captain Marvel is the 11th most successful superhero film of all time – ahead of representatives like The Dark Knight and Spider-Man. Captain Marvel is on TV today and the timing couldn’t be better.

What is Captain Marvel about and when is the sequel coming?

The plot: Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) was once human. But an unexpected explosion fuses her DNA with Kree genetic codes, a warlike alien species. From now on she is a hybrid creature, half human, half Kree. Equipped with superhuman superpowers and under the name Captain Marvel, she is dedicated to protecting people.

To do this, however, she first has to go back to earth. Captain Marvel jumps into the MCU’s past, the 90s. There Carol Danvers meets, among others, a young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). The plot became even more explosive due to its proximity to Endgame – so be sure to watch the post-credit scenes.

The continuation: More than four years later, the sequel to Captain Marvel: The Marvels will follow on November 8, 2023. Carol Danvers teams up with Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau.
