The weather apps on smartphones installed by default by the device manufacturer are very practical when it comes to establishing forecasts over several days. In general, the information provided is quite reliable. On the other hand, when it comes to being more precise, especially with very short-term forecasts, we can no longer trust them too much. In fact, you have every chance of getting a little rain on your face during your daily walk when your weather app simply announced a few cloudy periods. And getting soaked when you don’t have an umbrella. The same goes if you plan to garden, mow your lawn, have a picnic or light a barbecue. And it’s not just a question of season, as we can see this spring with the rain that has been pouring heavily across France for several days…

Fortunately, the app installed by default on your mobile is not the only one available. There are dozens of them in online stores like the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. However, we have found one that stands out from the rest: it is Rain Alarm, by Michael Diener. It is not only based on Météo France forecasts, but also on data collected locally. And that’s what makes it so interesting, and its advantage over traditional weather apps.

Indeed, thanks to this very precise information, it can know if the rain is falling a few kilometers from your home and if the winds are carrying it in your direction. And in this case, it informs you live of the risk of rain by means of a simple notification. And having tested it, it works very well, with great precision in its predictions! It’s really ideal for knowing the real-time weather near you.

This app also provides weather radar. It allows you to display a map presenting an animation with the movement of rain zones and their intensity. Enough to easily anticipate what will fall on your head. Available on both iPhone and Android, Rain Alert also exists as a free extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox browsers to benefit from real-time forecasts on your computer. In the same state of mind, you can also rely on the Rain Radar app, also available on both iOS and Android which alerts you of the arrival of rain. It is very efficient and relevant but not all of its menus are translated into French.
