After a boring day at the office, programmer Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) doesn’t want to stay alone in the apartment and goes to a café to socialize. There he meets the bright Marcy Franklin and starts talking to her. She tells him about her roommate Kiki, who makes unusual paperweights out of plaster. Paul acts interested and gets Kiki’s number.

    After Hours

Under the pretext of being interested in the sculptures, Paul visits their apartment. While Kiki works on an eccentric sculpture, Marcy tells him all sorts of strange stories. However, she doesn’t address the burns that Paul notices on her skin. When everything finally becomes too much for him, he takes his legs in his hands and flees the apartment. However, this is just the beginning of an adventurous journey through a completely crazy Manhattan late at night…

After Hours combines two different film genres into a unique overall picture: The mixture of screwball comedy, a comedy sub-species in which a strange person is at the center, and film noir is interspersed with a twisty plot full of sad and terrible moments, from which black humor can draw almost endlessly.
