After his third throw, Helander took off his shoes and went to show his coach something To Tero Pitkämäki. At the same time, the information from the throwing place said that the javelin bear will leave the race.

At the Paavo Nurme Games in Turku on June 13, he competed in a great series. Paras carried 87.32, which was the third best result of his career. Helander’s record of 89.83 is from the same Turku Games from the previous summer.

Helander is fifth in this season’s world statistics and belongs to Finland’s few medal hopes at the World Championships in Budapest. The top name of the season so far is a Czech Jakub Vadlejch with a result of 89.51.

Shortly after his suspension, however, Helander gave reassuring information about the quality of his injury.

Helander said in an interview with Urheilu that his ankle turned in the second throw. Helander had said before the Oulu race that the most important technical development target is the grip of the support leg.

– Otherwise, it was a very good throw, but it didn’t hold up this time either.

Did it hurt badly?

– Yes, it turned out just fine. It’s not that painful now, but as a precaution I don’t throw anymore.

Helander believed that he will survive the concussion without a doctor’s visit and will be able to throw according to his plan the next time in Mikkeli on July 21.

Helander was not satisfied with the throws he made in the competition.

– Practice went really well, but in the competition the throws opened too early and did not start in the right position. The other one could have been good, but when the ankle rolled, it went through the support.
