NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series Rumor

Leaks about NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 ‘Blackwell’ series GPUs claim that they will include DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity and TSMC’s 3nm technology, and that this new series will support 4K 240Hz and 8K 120Hz.

NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 50 series ‘Blackwell’ gaming GPUs will feature DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity. This new series is expected to support 240Hz at 4K resolution and 120Hz at 8K resolution.

Rumor: DisplayPort 2.1 and TSMC’s 3nm Technology in NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series

While AMD’s current Radeon RX 7000 “RDNA 3” series and even Intel’s current Arc GPU family support DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity, NVIDIA’s next-generation GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” series will be the latest entrant to support this standard.

According to the leak source “kopite7kimi”, he responded to questions about whether the RTX 50 series will support DisplayPort 2.1 with an index finger sign in his recent tweets. The same source was also asked whether TSMC’s 3nm processor node will be used by NVIDIA.

Currently, AMD can provide up to 80Gbit/s bandwidth using DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR13.5 implementation. However, the full UHBR20 implementation of DP2.1 can only reach 54Gbit/s. If NVIDIA doesn’t implement UHBR20 for DisplayPort 2.1 in the RTX 50 “Blackwell” series, their late entry into the market could be even more disappointing. DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity is vital for NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070, and all models in between (Ti, SUPER, Ultra, and GX2).

While NVIDIA continues to market 8K with its RTX 40 series cards, the future of gaming will be high-performance 4K 240Hz and even higher (4K 360Hz, 4K 480Hz). Additionally, 120Hz and 240Hz displays with 8K resolution are also on the agenda. NVIDIA’s upcoming flagship GeForce RTX 5090 will be an absolute powerhouse. However, sticking to the legacy DisplayPort 1.4 standard may limit this potential. The future is here and it’s even brighter with DP2.x.
